Playboy Magazine Is Featuring Nude Photos Again

Naked is back.

Playboy is set to feature nude photos again, one year after banning them in an attempt to boost circulation and attract more mainstream advertisers. The magazine made an announcement on Monday and celebrated the reversal on social media with the hashtag #NakedIsNormal.

Cooper Hefner – Playboy’s chief creative officer and Hugh Hefner’s son – tweeted: “I’ll be the first to admit that the way in which the magazine portrayed nudity was dated, but removing it entirely was a mistake. Nudity was never the problem because nudity isn’t a problem. Today, we’re taking our identity back and reclaiming who we are.”

The 63-year-old legendary men’s magazine also released its March-April cover, featuring Elizabeth Elam. According to reports, the latest issue will display breasts and butts, but not full frontal nudity.

Back in October 2015, Cory Jones – Playboy’s chief content officer – said that the nudity-free makeover was supposed to make the magazine “a little more accessible, a little more intimate.” But now that Playboy is returning to its original form, the response has been largely enthusiastic.

Hefner first published Playboy in 1953 with Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe on the cover. In the years that followed, the magazine became known for its full frontal pictorials.
