Excitement level: 8×4.
A Super Mario-themed bar just opened in Washington D.C., and people are already lining up for hours to visit it. The new hotspot – called The Cherry Blossom PUB (pop-up bar) – has been put together by Derek Brown and The Drink Company.
Brown, a cocktail expert, designed the place to celebrate cherry blossom season in the nation’s capital. He says: “Japan has always been a source of inspiration for me and, as a native Washingtonian, cherry blossom season is something we look forward to every year. This pop-up brings together some of my favorite things under one roof, including both classic cocktails and Mario nostalgia.”
The bar – located in Washington’s Shaw neighborhood – has been transformed into a Nintendo dream world, inspired by Super Mario. And it has it all: mushrooms hanging from the ceiling, mystery boxes glowing overhead and bartenders dressed as Mario and Luigi.
When it comes to the Cherry Blossom’s menu, it features some aptly titled Mario-themed cocktails, such as: ‘It’s A Me, A Mario’, ‘King Koopa Cup’, ‘Press Start + A’, ‘What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Smaller’, and ‘I Call Yoshi!’. The cocktails are $13 each, unless otherwise noted.
The pop-up bar is set to run until April 15. It opens every day at 5 pm and Super Mario enthusiasts are advised to come early to avoid the up-to-2-hour lines.
