Congratulations are in order!
A couple from Tracy, California, have reached an incredible milestone last weekend: they celebrated their 82nd wedding anniversary! Nicholas and Rafaela Ordaz – who were joined by their family members – had a double party, because Nicholas turned 102 on Friday!
The elderly couple’s 14 children, 44 grandchildren, 83 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren helped them mark the special occasion. They tied the knot in 1934, at a time when the United States was in the midst of the Great Depression, and Adolf Hitler declared himself to be “Führer”.
The couple’s granddaughter, Isela Garcia, said that they have always been “invaluable role models”. She added: “I always noticed the unity they had and still have have. I admire their love and compassion for one another and I can’t say I ever saw them argue or mad at each other.”
During the family gathering, the 102-year-old shared the secret to their eight-decade-long relationship: “respect, affection and not sweating the small stuff”. And even though the pair have been married so long there is not even a traditional gift to give, they are very close to having the longest marriage ever recorded.
According to the Guinness World Records, Herbert and Zelmyra Fisher from the United States hold that title: they were married for 86 years and 290 days, until February 27, 2011, when Herbert passed away.
