Must love dogs.
A woman from India has captured hearts all over the world after she turned down an arranged marriage to a wealthy suitor because he didn’t want her dog. Karishma Walia – who works in Gurgaon as an analyst – was recently in talks with a man from New Delhi, but they hit an impasse over her beloved pooch, Lucy.
In a WhatsApp conversation between the pair posted on Twitter, the ‘eligible bachelor’ asks Walia if she has reached a decision on his proposal. The young woman replies: “Hey, I thought we spoke about this. Dog is going to be an issue… So!”
Walia and the man continued texting, and at some point, he wrote: “It may be a temporary phase in life when you like dogs. We are talking of your life here.” Adamant that she would not sacrifice her pet for an arranged marriage, she responded: “Yes I’m sure. Having a dog is definitely not a temporary phase. I can’t abandon my dog for anyone.”
The young woman explains: “My mom thought he’s an excellent match because he’s good-looking and well-off. There was a lot of family pressure, and they still think I did the wrong thing by raising the concern about my dog.”
Walia concludes: “He would say things like ‘family should be a priority and not career’. I gave up when he commented about my dog. I don’t know why my family still thinks he’s an eligible bachelor.”
