Have you ever dreamed of sleeping in the most famous bedroom in art history? Well, now you can.
In order to celebrate an upcoming Vincent van Gogh exhibition, the Art Institute of Chicago has recreated the Dutch Impressionist’s iconic ‘Bedroom in Arles’ painting. The museum teamed up with short-term rentals site Airbnb for the project, and the vibrant bedroom – which is located in a nearby building at State and Grand streets – is now available online for just $10 a night for two people.
Van Gogh painted the room three times while he was staying in the southern French city between 1888 and 1889. All three versions of The Bedroom will be on display at the Chicago museum for the first time in North America.
The Airbnb listing – which is written by ‘Vincent Van Gogh’ – reads: “This room will make you feel like you’re living in a painting. It’s decorated in post-impressionist style, reminiscent of Southern France and times gone by. Its furniture, bright colors, and artwork will give you the experience of a lifetime.”
The bedroom comes with Internet, TV, wifi, and a washer/dryer, and guests will be treated to free tickets to the exhibition, courtesy of the museum. Available dates will be rolled out from February 14 onward, so aspiring renters should check Van Gogh’s listing often.
